Dual core
Normally this size notebook means that most manufacturers will put in a relatively slow single core processor, which is made less potent by reducing the clockspeed to save energy and reduce the heat. Dell is no different, they use energy efficient processors in this notebook, but it is a dual core one. The Intel Core Duo U2500 works on 1.2 GHz and sports a 533 MHz front side bus. It is a lot less than the normal 2.0Ghz T2500 with 667MHz FSB, but it does offer better performance than a single core model. A disadvantage to the Core Duo is that it does not have 64 bit extensions, if you want those you will have to wait for the energy efficient model of the Core 2 Duo.
As most notebooks in this segment the Latitude D420 has onboard graphics, Dell uses Intel 945GM chipset that is combined with Intel's Pro/Wireless 3945ABG network adapter. This combination makes it a Centrino notebook, although bluetooth is only available as an extra option. The 12 inch screen does not have a glare finish, which allows working in almost every location without being hindered by refelctions in the screen.
