Designer Briefcase
Dell have paid a lot of attention to detail, when closed the M2010 looks exactly like a briefcase and must also be opened in the exact same way by pushing on the two thumb latches located on either side of the handle. This releases the screen which then partially opens, the screen can then be set in the position that the user requires. Unlike most notebooks the Dell's screen is not directly attached to the main body, just like the design that was presented by Intel during the Intel Developer Forum Fall 2006, and thus it has a wide range of adjustable settings. To attain optimal flexibility and comfort Dell have fitted the M2010 with a detachable wireless keyboard and due to this design element the M2010 almost begins to resemble an audio/video system from Bang & Olufsen.
The previously named example is enforced by the placement of the DVD-burner in the screen stand. With just the push of a button the motorised drive cover swings up, allowing you to place a disc in the DVD-burner and by pushing the same button again the cover comes down and closes, All in all these small but elegant details would complement any modern (and compact) living room. The keyboard is something of a novelty for a notebook, due to the keyboard being wireless it allows the user to use the keyboard either attached to the machine itself, separately on a table or on their lap. To allow for this versatility the cursor keys have been sacrificed in favour of a glide pad. Dell have also included a wireless mouse for use on a desk or tabletop.
Remote Control
A point of interest is the remote control that Dell supplies with the M2010. Remote controls for pc's and Media Centres may not be unprecedented but the model that comes with the M2010 is something very special. The remote control is a multifunctional model, equipped with an LCD screen and Gyration-technology. Gyration-technology basically means that Dell have integrated a gyroscope into the remote control allowing to be used as an alternative to a mouse. By moving your wrist you move the cursor onscreen allowing the user the functionality of a mouse without having to sit behind a desk or tabletop. Sadly enough the remote control cannot be purchased separately and is only available with the M2010.
