Power usage

As expected the power usage ofthe 8800 GTX is high. Our test system used between 240 and 250 watts when running 3DMark06, where the usage was only around 200 watts with the 7900 GTX plugged in. The two PEG connectors on the 8800GTX are definitely not put on there just for show.

To estimate the actual usage of the card itself we tested the total power usage of the system with a simple PCI graphics card. We found that the system used no more than 105 watts idle and around 120 watts when stressing We assume that the PCI cards uses around 5 watts, and conclude that the 8800 GTX must use around 75 watts in idle mode and 135 watts in use.
