The future of the all new AMD The future of the all new AMD
What the merger between AMD and ATI will lead to

Vision

The new AMD wants to step into the above scenarios by developing solutions that are aimed at specific markets, so processors meant for notebooks, servers or media centres will all be adapted to work in the chosen environment. The way AMD wants to go with their new products is evident in the vision that they presented for 2008 onwards

AMDATI-3

AMD/ATI has set themselves the goal to keep making computers cheaper, more powerfull and more energy efficient. By integrating graphic possibilities into the processor an important step towards that is made. Also it has become clear that the company wants to start using the x86 architecture in other products like PDA's and high-end servers. A bold step, as up till now these markets have both been using other architechtures.

Phil Hester, Chief Technology Officer (CTO)of AMD does see a future for x86 products in PDA's or smartphones. "It is a misunderstanding that it is impossible to use an x86 processor in a PDA or smartphone because of complexity and power usage. An x86 CPU can be just as energy efficient as other architectures. The main reason why there are no PDA's based n x86 architecture is because no suitable products have been developed for it. I expect to see palmtops on the market based on x86 in the near feature."
