The 2400 is a compact notebook designed for those who are continuously on the move and require a notebook at all times. The only let down of the small screen is that it doesn't lend itself to working at a desk and a separate monitor would be the best solution in such a situation. Though the 4300's screen is still small when compared to a 15,4 inch screen, a separate monitor for desk work is not a necessity as such. Following the current market trend both models have wide screen monitors and both work at the same resolution: 1280x800.

Overall specifications are fairly much the same, an 80 GB hard drive, Intel 802.11a/b/g WLAN-adapter which allows Averatec to put the Centrino sticker on its casing and a 4400 mAh battery. There are some slight differences between the models, the DVD-burner used in the 2400 was somewhat more "modern", whilst the 4300 has a gigabit network port and a tv-out. One detail that stood out was the 2400 comes with a cardreader whilst the slightly more expensive 4300 has to make do without.

The performance of the two is practically identical, the 4300 manages to outperform the 2400 by a slight margin in only a few tests. Battery life is around three hours for both notebooks.

Averatec has managed to produce two notebooks that offer decent performance for a relatively low price with the 2400 and 4300 series, mainly due to the use of the dual core processor. Additionaly these models are compact and light, hence perfect for anyone who travels a lot. We can heartily recommend both these models to anyone on the lookout for an affordable yet compact notebook.
