Powerful Tablet PC

Power of a heavyweight

thumb

All that weight is due to the impressive system specifications. Inside our test model we find an Intel Core Duo T2500, 1GB of memory and a 80 GB 5400 rpm hard drive. The Tecra also has a 14,1 inch screen with a resolution of 1440x900, which is a lot regarding the small screen especially when most machines in this category have a screen resolution of 1280x800. This does not prove to be a problem on the Tecra's small screen and in addition gives you the space to place lots of icons on your desktop. The graphical power is supplied by a nVidia Quadro NVS110M, a business version of the popular Geforce family, with 128 MB memory and TurboCache-Technology which allows the video card to access the system memory when running an application that is graphic intensive. This combination of hardware is also ideally suited to multi-monitor setups

When speaking in terms of general notebook graphics performance, the Tecra can be called a reasonable performer and if we compare it to business notebooks we would even go as far as to say that it is excellent. The rest of the system specs are more than adequate: Bluetooth 2,0, card reader, four USB 2.0 connections, firewire and a Trusted Platform Module, its all there. Additionally the system comes equipped with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG WLAN-Adaptor and is therefore allowed to carry the name Intel Centrino Duo
As usual we have an in depth comparison of the Tecra M7 and several other notebooks. The performance of the Tecra M7 is excellent, our only problem was that we were not capable of successfully running either MobileMark 2002 SE and 3Dmark 03 on the system hence we were not able to include those scores.

Conclusion

The Toshiba Tecra M7 is a multifunctional Tablet PC. Most computers that use a stylus as an input device do not have system specifications that really speak to the imagination, unlike the Tecra M7. Admittedly there are more powerful machines, but with a Core Duo T2500, 1 GB of memory and a separate Graphics card you cant really go wrong with the Tecra M7. The Tecra M7 is a bit on the heavy side and for anyone who travels a lot with their machine in hand it might be advisable to opt for a smaller more compact unit. For anyone who wants the functionality of a Tablet PC paired with excellent performance we can heartily recommend the Toshiba Tecra M7, and thus we award it with a well deserved Hardware.info Gold Award.
