Benchmarks

As we have already done an extensive review on the 7900 cards and their possibilities we will only give a small summary in this review. The 7900 cards are fully compatible with DirectX 9.0c and support the latest 3D games, and have no problems with the newest 3D effects like HDR rendering. The DirectX 9.0 compatibility automatically means that the card can be used without problems in the upcoming Windows Vista. As the other nVidia 7900 cards the GS also sports nVidia's PureVideo technology, that ensures flawless playback of (HD) video content. What we are really interested in is performance: as the 7900GS will be sold around 100 to 150 dollars below the GT, we want to know how much performance you actually loose.

We have tested the 7900GS on our new testbed, consisting of an Intel Core 2 Extreme 6800 processor, Asus P5W DH motherboard, 1GB DDR2-800 and a Western Digital Raptor 74GB hard drive. As the INtel boards do not support SLI configurations, we were not able to test this. We will update the benchmarks when we have received an nForce 590 SLI board for Intel processors. We used the latest ForceWare 91.47, in the graphs on the next pages all ATI cards are shown in red, the nVidia cards in green and the new GeForce 7900GS in blue.
