HSDPA/UMTS
Above the monitor, Dell has mounted a rotatable 1.3 megapixel webcam, which is a nice extra. Near the battery we find a bay which can be used to house a Dell Wireless 5505 Broadband expansion card which makes the notebook compatible with UMTS/HSDPA networks. This card is not yet available in the Benelux area, but it is in Germany, France and the UK. The XPS M1210 can be upgraded with this card at a later date.
The model we tested came with two batteries. The smaller of the two keeps the notebook's total weight at 2.05 Kg and offers a working time of some two and a half hours. The larger battery bumps the M1210's weight up another 150 grams, but also provides a very generous four hour working time. Dell delivered the XPS M1210 with Windows XP Media Center Edition, and included a suitable remote control.
Conclusion
Looking for a quick, powerful laptop but do you find the other models to be too large and hefty? The XPS M1210 offers an attractive solution that can be modified to your needs like most Dell products. Critical buyers can thus mix and match the ultimate processor, amount of memory and hard drive to match their needs and budget. This is a unique product that thoroughly deserves a Hardware.Info Gold Award.
