Notebook-expert Toshiba has always offered its customers a wide selection of models suited for consumers as well as business users. The Satellite U200-168 comes from the consumer range of this brand, which means that you have to make do without business-oriented features like a port for a docking station.

Just like most other notebooks with a 12 inch monitor, the Toshiba Satellite U200 is nicely compact. Equipped with an eponymously branded 100 GB 5400 rpm hard drive, 1 GB of RAM and an Intel Core Duo processor, the U200 is a fast notebook in a compact enclosure. It's not only compact, but also noticably light: just 1.85 kg.

Browsing through the specifications, it is apparent that Toshiba has chosen to use the Intel Core Duo T2300E. The most important difference between the E revision and the regular Intel Core Duo T2300 is the fact that it lacks support for Intel Virtualisation Technology. This bars the user from accelerating use of virtualisation software like VMWare. For a notebook like this particular Toshiba, lacking in this field is no major issue. 

 Toshiba has equipped the Satellite with a 4700 mAh battery, which offers about 3 hours and 20 minutes of working time with a full charge, which is a decent result. Because this machine has an Intel 945GM chipset, and uses the graphical processor of the 945GM the performance figures are hardly earth-shattering, so consequently gamers should look elsewhere for their kicks. 

Conclusion

A pleasantly small and reliable notebook by Toshiba endowned with a lot of premium features: 100 GB hard drive, Intel dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM. A nice workhorse for those looking for a light and utterly mobile notebook.
