Laser printer usage costs
We calculated the average price per print based on the specifications we received from the various manufacturers. We use a 5% cover and 1 eurocent per paper for printing text, the price per page is calculated on the basis of the prices and lifespan of drum kits and a black toner cartridge. The price per page using this calculation comes to between 3 and 5 eurocents per page, which is fairly inexpensive, even when comparing to an average inkjet printer. If we use the same calculation on an inkjet printer, the HP DeskJet 6840, the average price per page comes to almost 5 eurocents.
For the average price of a colour print we used a similar calculation. Again we use 5% coverage for all four colours, and a price of 1 eurocent per paper. An average price per page in colour adds up to between 10 and 60 eurocents. When using the same calculation on the DeskJet 6840, not the cheapest of printers in use, the average price per page is 12 eurocents. The inkjet in this test is cheaper than all but one colour laser printer, and on top of this the investment when you need new cartridges is considerably less than with a laser printer.
