Introduction

The Toshiba Qosmio G30

Upon first glance the Toshiba Qosmio G30 raises the question: is this machine a laptop or a luxurious audio/video player? The correct answer is: both. We are examining a prototype of the street-ready version that is due later this year, which allows us a chance to enjoy HD DVD and the newest Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor.

The Qosmio G30 is the top of the line in the multimedia range of Toshiba notebooks. This particular model is fully loaded, which makes it on the one hand a versatile computer and on the other hand a modern audio/video player. This can be seen in its design as well, as it is not an every-day grey notebook but a device that deserves to be placed in a prominent place in the living room or home office. And it's best to leave it placed there, because with a weight of 4.5 kg it is less suited to being portable. It is also relatively thick, compared to other notebooks that are also equiped with a 17 inch screen.
