AMD admits that the new ATI Radeon HD 5000 series of graphics cards is lacking in availability. The recently introduced 5700 and 5800 cards use TSMC-made 40nm GPU's.

AMD states there's room for improvement when it comes to the yields of this production process. Combined with the huge demand for the new DirectX 11 cards, it results in a huge availability problem. AMD expects that the process will be improved in the coming weeks, allowing waiting customers to be served.
