MSI has finished its latest AM2+ motherboard based on AMD's 790FX chipset. The board, branded 790X-G45 features MSI's trademark blue-black colour scheme. All socket AM2+ and AM3 processors are supported and up to four DDR2 memory modules can be installed. MSI has paid attention to the length of graphics cards, having equipped the board with angled SATA and PATA-connectors.
The usage of the 790FX chipset also allows CrossFire configurations to be used, though only 16 lanes are available. This means that when both graphics card slots are in use, the available lanes will be shared in an 8x/8x configuration. The motherboard also sports two small PCI-Express 1x connectors and two regular PCI slots. The 790X northridge is supported by the SB710 chip, which is ACC-compatible. This feature is not only handy for overclockers, but can also provide users with the option to unlock processors with one or two disabled cores, such as the Phenom X2 and X3 models.
The I/O panel is equipped with USB and PS/2 connectors, as well as Gigabit LAN and 7.1 audio. The used soundchip is VIA's VT1828S. Lastly, MSI's new AM2+ motherboard also features an Easy OC Switch and a Clear CMOS button. The 790X-G45 is to be released shortly at an unknown price.
