PCWorld reports that AMD will be decreasing the prices of several Phenom II processors in the coming days. The recent competition of Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 Lynnfield processors, as well as the older Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor have forced AMD to reduce the pricetags of its topmodels. The three Phenom II quadcores that are to become less expensive are the X4 965 Black Edition, X4 955 Black Edition and the X4 945. The only triple-core to receive a price cut is the Phenom II X3 720.
All price cuts will be introduced gradually and it is still unknown how long it'll take for them to reach their new RRP. The overview below shows the price changes for each processor:
| Model | Socket | Cores | Clock Frequency |
Recommended price ($) | New price ($) | Current price (€) |
| Phenom II X4 945 | AM3 | 4 | 3,0 GHz | $225 USD | $175 USD | € 170 |
| Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition | AM3 | 4 | 3,2 GHz | $245 USD | $195 USD | € 180 |
| Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition | AM3 | 4 | 3,4 GHz | $245 USD | $225 USD | € 200 |
| Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition | AM3 | 3 | 2,8 GHz | $130 USD | $110 USD | € 115 |
