[Computex09] ATI shows its first DirectX 11 chip
During its Computex press conference, AMD has demonstrated the first DirectX 11 graphics card. A demo of Microsoft's DirectX 11 SDK was shown on a big screen. AMD also showed a wafer with the 40nm DirectX 11 chips, produced by TSMC. ATI's first DirectX 11 Radeon-cards are to be released by the end of this year. AMD insists that the company will release the cards faster than competitor nVidia.
The demo shows AMD's DirectX 11 chip's codename in the upper left corner: the chip is branded after the Taipei Evergreen hotel, where AMD/ATI-employees were residing during the Computex of 2007.
