Intel's CTO has presented a die shot of the upcoming Larrabee processor on the German university of Saarland. The x86-chip, which combines both CPU and GPU, will be launched by the end of 2009 or early 2010 in a 45nm version.
The chip consists of multiple singular cores that are based on the design of the first Pentium P54C chip from the 90's. The die shot clearly shows these individual cores.
While the original Pentium featured transistors of 0,80 µm or 800 nm, Larrabee will initially be produced as a 45nm chip. In 2010, a transition to 32 nm is to be made.
