Eurocom recently proved that the Core i7 processor also fits in a notebook with the launch of its D900F Phantom. Now, competitor SmoothCreations has launched a desktop replacement based on the latest Core i7 processor and the matching X58 chipset. SmoothCreations' notebook will be branded Bulldozer, a subtle reference to the power and weight of the device. This new model is intended for two types of users; gamers and professionals in the graphics industry. Apart from gaming, this desktop replacement is perfectly capable of running CAD/CAM software and forensic applications.
Like Eurocom's model, the machine is a modest 17 inches, the screen features a 1900x1200 pixel resolution. Processor options include the Core i7 920, 940 and 965 XE, respectively clocked at 2,66, 2,93 and 3,2 GHz. Graphics are provided by a GTX 280M graphics card from nVidia. The Bulldozer notebook can be equipped with 6 or 12 GB of DDR3 memory, spread over three SO-DIMM modules. There's room for three hard disks, which can be filled with hard disks of up to 500 GB, or several types of SSD's, including Intel's X25-M. The most extreme edition of the notebook is able to house up to 480 GB of SSD storage or 1,5 TB of magnetic storage.
Standardly, the laptop features a DVD-burner, but for an additional fee, a Blu-ray combo drive is also an option. SmoothCreations bundles a 12-cell battery and a 220 Watt power adaptor with the system. The price of the most basic configuration if 3200 dollar.
