Earlier this week, Western Digital presented its first 2 TB enterprise hard disk, branded RE4-GP. Thanks to a buffer of 64 MB, two controllers and an increased data density, the new disk reaches a performance up to 25% greater than its predecessor. The RE4-GP features an improved version of Western Digital's GreenPower technology -hence the GP addition to the name-. This technology allows the disk to consume less energy previous models. The 3.5-inch Western Digital RE4-GP uses a SATA 3.0 Gbit/s interface, has a specified MTBF of 1.2 million hours and comes with five years of warranty.
The 2 TB RE4-GP will become available shortly, its price being somewhere around €300.
