Successor to Scythe's Zipang coming soon
Scythe has added the successor of its Scythe Zipang CPU-cooler (SCZP-1000) to its website. Like its predecessor, the unsurprisingly named Zipang 2 (SCZP-2000) will feature a 140 mm fan and will be compatible with almost all conventional sockets, including Intel's new socket LGA1366 and AMD's sockett AM3.
Compared to the first Zipang, the new processorcooler is a tad smaller; its dimensions are 145 x 149 x 106 mm. The weigh has also been decreased by 100 gram, where the Zipang weighs 815 grams, the Zipang 2 weighs only 715. To increase the airflow and cooling performance, six copper heatpipes are connected to a series of aluminum fins. A round 1000 RPM fan sits on top of the cooling fins. It's specified to displace 51.43 CFM of air while producing a sound level of 22.74 dB(A). Because the cooler also has 120 mm mounting holes, the 140 mm fan can also be replaced by a 120 mm model. The Zipang 2 supports the following sockets; AMD's socket 754, 939, 940, AM2(+) and AM3, as well as Intel's socket 478, 775 and 1366.
It's expected that Scythe's Zipang 2 will be released in Japan by the end of this month at a price of about €38. When the cooler will be released worldwide and at which price is still unknown.
