As known, the successor to Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system shall be branded Windows 7. In January o this year, Microsoft released a beta version of the program, to allow debugging and testing. Early this month, the official versions of Windows 7 were announced. The Release Candidate is the final stage prior to the retail version. Initially, the RC1 of Windows 7 was planned for the second half of 2009. Launching the product on the 10th of April means that Microsoft is quite ahead of its previous schedule. Reports mention that Windows 7 RC1 will be " widely available ", which makes it likely that the Release Candidate will be free to download, just like the beta version.
