German manufacturer BeQuiet has launched the SFX and TFX series of power supplies, specially designed for small-form-factor systems. This category includes barebones and HTPC chassis, systems that are to be both quiet and compact. The TFX Power has a continous capacity of 300 Watt, and takes up only half the width of a regular ATX power supply. The PSU has dimensions of 70x85x175mm and is cooled by a silent 80mm fan.
The SFX power supply is compact in another dimension; this model has an equal width to that of conventional ATX power supplies, but is only 10 cm deep. The SFX line-up will initially sport a 300 and a 350 Watt model, the latter of which will be equipped with a six-pin PEG connector, allowing for more potent graphics cards to be used. All three supplies live up to the ATX V2.3 specification and have an average efficiency of 86%. Both the SFX and TFX models are equipped with two independent +12V rails to ensure maximum stability.
BeQuiet has paid a lot of attention to silent operation with these power supplies, given the fact that small systems are often found on desks, closer to the ear of the user. The TFX 300 has a recommended pricetag of 49,90 euro, while the SFX models are to cost respectively 48,90 and 59,90 for the 300 and 350 Watt versions.
