Addonics has presented a new controller which allows up to five devices to be connected to a single SATA port. The so-called SATA-port multiplier is called HPM XA and is compatible with the traditional hard disks, solid-state drives and optical drives. Storage media from the first two categories can also be used in a RAID-configuration.

The HPM XA will be released in two versions: an low-profile PCI expansion card, and an expansion card featuring a standard SCSI-1 bracket. The PCI-model features six SATA-connectors, one of which functions as a host, while the SCSI-edition only have five SATA-connectors for internal use, as well as an additional eSATA-port for external use. Both versions are powered by mini-molex.

The integrated JMicron JMB393 RAID-controller supports RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, JBOD and a Clone mode, which is configured by using the PCB's jumpers. A series of pins offers connectivity to both diagnostic LEDs and drive activity LEDs. Problems are made audible by the integrated speaker.

Addonics' controller comes equipped with management software, compatible with Windows, OS X and Linux. The HPM XA comes with a year of warranty and has a recommended pricetag of US $99.
