A few months ago, rumors surfaced that XFX, a manufacturer most known for its graphics cards and motherboards, was working on an 850 Watt power supply. Those rumors have now become reality, as the company introduces the 850W Black Edition, a power supply specially designed for use in high-end systems. As expected from such a PSU, it features nVidia's SLI-Ready and AMD's CrossFireX-Ready certificates.
XFX' 850W Black Edition combines an 80Plus Silver certificate, which guarantees an efficiency of atleast 88% under half load, with a semi-modular design. The PSU uses a single +12V rail with a capacity of up to 70 Amps, the equivalent of 840 Watt. To guarantee stability, high-quality Japanese solid capacitors have been used. A silent 135 mm ball-bearing fan keeps the PSU's components cooled down.
Equipped with a typical XFX-finish in the colors black and green, the 850W Black Edition should be released shortly, sporting a pricetag of about US $200. This includes a five-year warranty plan.
