Recently, AMD silently introduced a new dualcore processor in the Athlon II X2 series. Because the Athlon II X2 215 -as the newest addition is called- does not appear on any roadmaps, no one was aware of its existence until it surfaced in several Asian shops. It's serial number indicates that the Athlon II X2 215 will be the new entry model of the Athlon II X2 line-up.
The 45 nm chip is compatible with AMD's socket AM3. Both of its cores feature a 2,7 GHz clock frequency and each have 1 MB of L2 cache memory. Like the other Athlon II X2 models, the X2 240, 245 and 250, AMD's latest chip is also based on the Regor architecture and has its TDP specified at 65 Watt.
Given the current price of €57 for an Athlon II X2 240 processor, it's likely that this chip will be available at an even lower price.
