With AMD releasing its new ATI Radeon HD 5000 series next month, the wait was for competitor nVidia to respond. The manufacturer is currently working on the development of the GT300 series which, like the ATI Radeon HD 5000 cards, is to support DirectX 11. The new GT300 is to be produced using a 40nm process, resulting in more efficient and cheaper chips. nVidia will also start using GDDR5 memory.

Because it's unlikely the GT300 will be released soon, it'll be quite a while before nVidia comes with an answer to the Radeon HD 5000 series. To shorten AMD's time to get ahead, nVidia is planning to demonstrate its GT300 chip next month. Several sources at "brightsideofnews" report that the first samples of the GT300 chip will also be shipped next month. It's expected that nVidia will also be able to show a working graphics card with DirectX 11 demonstrations by then.

These early demonstrations may limit the blow AMD's new series will cause, though it will still heavily depend on the final performance and the differences between the GT300 chip and the HD5000 line-up.
