MSI N275GTX Lightning faster than GTX285?

MSI's N275GTX Lightning card could already be seen during the Computex convention, but has now been officially been reported to release shortly. The card is obviously based on nVidia's GeForce GTX 275 reference model, but has some interesting extras. MSI has used so-called "Military Class" components on the GPU, similar to what Gigabyte does with its "Ultra Durable 3" technology. These components are better resistant against heavier circumstances than normal components, making the card a better candidate for overclocking. MSI retails the card with clock frequencies of 700 MHZ and 2300 MHz for respectively the core and memory. The GPU contains a total of 1792 MB of GDDR3 memory, linked to a 448-bit memorycontroller.

The overclocked card is cooled by the Twin Frozr II GPU-cooler, which uses two 8 cm fans and five heatpipes, each with an 8 mm diameter. Like the N260GTX Lightning, MSI's new card is also equipped with several techniques to improve the overclocking potential. The card features a 10-phase PWM power design and so-called "V-Check points". The latter consists of a number of metal contacts where overclocks can directly read the voltages of the GPU and memory by means of a multimeter. To simplify overclocking in an operating ysstem, MSI has added the "Lightning Afterburner" software, which allows the voltage of the GPU and frequencies of the GPU and memory to be adjusted. The program also allows the fanspeed to be controlled from Windows.

MSI claims that the N275GTX Lightning is faster than nVidia's GeForce GTX285 card with reference clock frequencies. The pricetag for MSI's new card is set at € 270.
