Sharp presents the BDHP22S. a new Blu-ray player that can be connected to the internet. The matching service, called BD-Live, offers users the possibility to download ringtones, trailers and previews. These can then be transported to a portable media player. BD-Live also supports online interaction while watching a movie, such as browsing related forums or the weblog of actors and the director. Lastly, there's the possibility to compete in movie-related online games against one another.
According to Sharp, booting the BDHP22S requires only ten seconds if the disk has been used before. The device is equipped with AQUOS link, which should make the remote control work on Sharp LCD televisions as well, allowing for a more userfriendly setting. Part of the AQUOS link functionality is the Pure Mode, which serves to automatically find the best image configuration. This should prevent overscan. The design of Sharp's new player is similar to that of the company's AQUOS televisions.
Sharp reports that all major components of the Blu-ray player are produced in their own factories, and that it has developed these key components as well, such as the opto-electronic laserdiode and the multibeam scan unit. The BD player features an analog and digital optical audio-output, a component video and an analog video-output.
Sharp's BDHP22S player is available at a recommended price of € 249.
