Intel has added four new models to its Xeon series of processors; the W5590, W3580, W3550 and lastly, the L5530. The W5590 and W3580, which feature a clock frequency of 3,33 GHz, are the successors to the current top models W5580 and W3570 (3,2 GHz). Both the W5590 and W3580 are Nehalem-based quadcore chips with 8 MB cache, a 130 Watt TDP and a 6,4 GT/s QPI connection. The difference between the 5000 and 3000 series is that the first supports multi-socket systems, whereas the second can only be used in single-socket solutions.
The new W3550 is a single-socket Xeon quadcore with a 3,06 GHz clock frequency and a 4,8 GT/s QPI connection. This chip also features a 130 Watt TDP and 8 MB's of cache. Lastly, there's the Xeon L5530 quadcore, bent towards efficienct and compact-sized systems. The chip has a 60 Watt TDP, 8 MB cache, 5,86 GT/s QPI connection and a clock frequency of 2,40 GHz, compared to the 2,26 GHz of it's predecesor, the L5520.
Intel has not yet announced when these chips will become publicly available. it's expected they will surface soon in OEM systems by manufacturers such as Dell and HP.
