An image of a new EVGA P55-motherboard appeared on the web recently. The LGA1156 board, featuring the codename 122-LF-E657 bears a striking resemblance to one of the two motherboards shown during the Computex 2009, which did not yet have a name then. It's also possible that this board is to become the more luxurious motherboard EVGA spoke of back then. As can be seen on the image, the EVGA board sports a black and gray finish, with a remarkably colorful setting on its headers.
Next to the CPU socket there are two 8-pin power connectors, which direct the current to the fourteen-phase power design. Also present are three BIOS-chips that can easily be switched between, a HEX-display for BIOS POST-codes and several other physical buttons. These features clearly reveal that the board is intended for overclockers. There are four DDR3-memory slots present, as well as three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots with SLI and CrossFireX support, six SATA 3.0 Gbit/s connectors, two Gigabit networkcontrollers and 7.1 audio.
To the right of the memory slots, a flashmemory slot has been placed. It's likely that this slot will not be present in the final version of the board, since it's a feature only supported by the P57-chipset. Notable is that EVGA has equipped its P55-board with mounting holes for both LGA1156 and LGA775 CPU-coolers, making it possible to use your current cooler on the new board as well.
It's expected that EVGA will officially introduce its 132-LF-E657 motherboard around the Lynnfield's launch, currently planned for early September.
