HighPoint RocketRAID 2644x4 reaches 1000 MB/s

HighPoint has announced the new RocketRAID 2644x4 controller. This PCI Express x4 card has four connectors for SATA 3Gbps disks and/or SAS-drives. With the help of SAS expanders, the 2644x4 can control up to 128 disks. on top of that, there's an external mini-SAS port available, supporting up to 4 additional drives.

HighPoint reports that the new RocketRAID controller can reach transit speeds of up to 1000 MB/s. Raid 0/1/5/10 and JBOD are supported and the required software to create and manage arrays comes bundled. The card would be perfectly suited for systems that process HD content. Certain workstations use multiple harddisks in a RAID array because of the significant amounts of data.

The RocketRAID 2644x4 can also be used in servers: it comes with drivers for Windows NT 5+, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Linux. For the last named system, the drivers have been compiled but are also available as source code.

The controller comes with a three year warranty and has a recommended price of $136.
