Chip manufacturer AMD has booked a loss for the seventh consecutive quarter. The loss of 1.19 billion dollar over the previous quarter was enough reason to replace Hector Ruiz as the company's leading man. His successor will be Dirk Meyer, who has worked for the company since 1995 and has had the supervision over the processor branche in the period of 2001 and 2006.

The success AMD had with its Athlon 64 generation back then allowed Meyer to become operational director for the company in 2006. While Meyer will take over the position of Hector Ruiz, the latter will still be active within the company's commisioner council.

Though the extended period of disappointing results, the company sees a bright future ahead. AMD expects to be out of the read in the second half of this year still, according to Financial topman Robert J. Rivert is the adoption of AMD's latest generation videochips and processors quite strong. With the coming of faster and more efficient processors and the sales of the new HD4000 graphics cards, AMD thinks its on the right path again.

The company also emphasizes its strong position in the top 500 of supercomputers, a branche in which the Opteron holds a great market share. AMD also reports that they have been able to significantly improve the profit margin for its products over the past quarters.

To save costs, the company will stop its activites in the area of handhelds and settopboxes, because this isn't AMD's core-business and they perform less than expected.
