Shuttle has introduced a new barebone, compatible with AMD's Phenom processors. The renewed 'H7' design for the case will be the base for the upcoming generation of Shuttle's mini-PC's. The XPC Barebone SN78SH7, as the device is called is built on an nVidia chipset with integrated GeForce 8200 graphics card, which supports DX10. This onboard videochip is able to play HD content without creating much load on the processor.
Apart from the onboard VGA output and the 7.1 audioconnectors there's also an HDMI 1.3 port, making it possible to connect the barebone to an LCD-TV with a single cable. The soundchip is certified for DTS Connect and Dolby Digital Live! and also has an optical output on the back of the case. The processor is cooled by a heatpipe construction which goes to the rear of the case, allowing the heat to leave the case directly. If you want to play the latest games on this barebone, you could use the PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot for a fast graphics card as wel.
There's an integrated 300 Watt power supply which is, with its 80 PLUS certificate, quite efficient as well. The built-in fan is temperature controlled to optimize the balance between cooling and sound production. Lastly, the motherboard features solid capacitors to endure the lifetime and maximize the board's stability. The Shuttle XPC Barebone SN78SH7 is available at a recommended price of 284 euro (excl. VAT).
