On IDF's technology showcase Micron showed a working demo of an Intel system with DDR3 memory. The used mainboard featured an upcoming Intel DDR3 compatible chipset but unfortunately Intel didn't allow Micron to actually show the board to the public. A camera hidden inside the PC proved that it were really Micron DDR3 modules powering the system. The shown modules ran at 1066 MHz with a 7T CAS latency. The friendly people at the booth told us that eventually the DDR3-1066 modules will feature 5-5-5 timings, giving them the same speed as DDR2. The big advantage will be much lower power usage, which can result in higher frequencies in the future. Unfortunately we can't tell you when to expect the first DDR3 chipsets from Intel.
